From private camping sites to publicly owned ones, check out this comprehensive list of 14 best camping places in Selangor ideal to unwind with your family and friends!

1.   Hulu Tamu Eco Resort Campsite

The shallow and shaded river at Eco Tamu Resort is perfect for tubing with kids.

Nestled just below verdant rolling hills amidst a budding durian orchard, Hulu Tamu Eco Resort Campsite offers sweeping views of ample greenery and comfort all in one.

Situated 40km from the heart of Petaling Jaya, this scenic campsite in Selangor is ideal for newbies. Plus, seasoned campers yearn for glamping facilities among the rugged jungle terrain.

Consisting of 24 tapak (base) in differing sizes, the campsites occupy the higher ground beside the river. We love the distance from one base to the other, lending you sufficient privacy and space to set up your belongings.

While skyscraper-like trees dot most of the camping ground, some spots are more barren. The lack of trees intensifies the heat from 11 am onwards.

So bring along a midsize electric fan to stay cool during set up. Alternatively, simply take a cooling dip at the river nearby when the temperature gets to you.

The facilities are top-notch, well-maintained, and still, look spanking new. Each campsite comes with its plug points, with strong Wi-Fi connectivity, ample toilets, and tubing facilities too.

Rustic and with basic facilities, Ajin Campsite's main attraction is its pristine river.

Revered for its pristine clear stream teeming with fishes and small prawns, Ajin Campsite is right beside the riverbank of Hulu Langat.

Set amidst a lush canopy of dense looming trees, this Sungai Semungkis Campsite’s shaded grounds shield campers from the scorching sun. You can drive pretty close to your campsite depending on which slot you've secured. Thus sparring you the backbreaking chore of hauling your camping paraphernalia long haul.

The “tapak” or campsites are filled with sand, so bring along a small broom or sweeper to keep our tent site sand-free, if that bothers you.

Bear in mind that the amenities are bare basic, where 1 toilet is shared among 37 base camps. Entrenched deeper in the forest, the Wi-Fi connection throttles down to zero.

So bring along a portable Wi-Fi to stay connected on social media and the rest of the world.

Majority of the camps at Dusun Apak Kaw are under shady trees, except for those closest to the river.

Regaled for its wide and clean river that facilitates tubing on the wide side, and sand play on its embankment, Dusun Apak Kaw boasts several fruit trees within its vicinity.

The river is shallow and perfect for children to frolic. The deeper and stronger current on the left side of the river lets campers tube down with ease.

Another plus point is that campers can drive up to their tent site and park next to it. Thus, saving the hassle of towing your camping equipment to the site.

You’ll also enjoy clean toilets, an open-air prayer area for Muslims, and tube-renting facilities. The 24-hour store manned by the owners allows you to stock up on mineral water, soft drinks, fresh sugar cane water, gas, charcoal, and instant noodles at reasonable prices.

This campsite in Batang Kali Selangor boasts unobstructed Wi-Fi connectivity.

Considering the decent facilities and affordable price at only RM70 per tent or RM 30 per car for a day trip Dusun Apak Kaw is worth every penny and repeat visits!

De Kampung flaunts many comforts akin to glamping while allowing campers to be close to nature.

With many activities to boot and common areas to encourage interaction, De Kampung is perfect for newbie campers on their maiden campaign voyage.

The pre-set-up tents are spacious and come with a shaded open seating space to chill and dine. The trees here are rather juvenile of age, so you won’t be shaded under the lush canopy of leaves.

Be forewarned that it can get a tad stifling and hot during the daytime. But you can seek refuge in the common area where campers chill and avoid the unyielding sun.

Meticulously landscaped with plenty of fish ponds and aquariums teeming with fish, this campsite in Selangor bodes well with anglers who can cast the line by the river too.

The river that cuts through the camping area is rather shallow and safe for children  to play without supervision

Sweeping green sceneries and a constant cool breeze makes Freezy68 a remarkable camp site in Selangor.

Just like its name suggests, Freezy68 can get chilling cold at night when the wind gushes through this rustic and natural campsite.

The wind blows the campsite constantly, so the temperature here is cooler than normal. While many trees fill the campsite, its rather juvenile growth stage means it lacks the thick canopy to shade the tent from the sun. Nevertheless, the verdant trees surrounding the campsite provide a decent respite from the heat.

Amenities are basic, which means you won’t get fancy glamping-like toilets or setups. The toilet, shower, and sink perch on a slight slope under a tree and away from the campsite. You can be sure of hitting the desired number of step per day at his campsite in Selangor, given the extra leg work.

The lighting is minimal so be sure to bring along extra lights. The water pressure in the toilet is weak and can be improved too.

Overall, Freezy68’s natural state is akin to Ajin Campsite, where nature’s authenticity is at its best state.

Perched on rolling hills, Summer Summer Farm promises a camping experience brimming with hotel-like amenities.

Nestled on rolling hills overlooking lush greenery, Summer Summer Farm boasts almost-hotel-like comforts with a spacious tropical-inspired toilet and communal cooking area.

There’s also a huge barbecue pit where you can spread your meat and vegetables

comfortably above the burning wood. And a fridge to keep meat and perishables fresh throughout your stay.

The campsite is wedged on the embankment closer yet higher than the river. Shaded by a thick canopy of verdant trees, the campsite remains cool for the most part of the morning.

There is also an herb garden and chicken coop displaying the names of its residents. Walk a little closer and these feathered friends cackle curiously in the presence of strangers!

The price per plot is RM 988 per night and this accommodates 8 tents in a row. To reduce the cost per person, you should gather as many camping buddies up to a maximum of 20 people!

7. Camping Ground - Resort Taman Eko Rimba Komanwel

If you’re looking for an activity-packed camping site flanked by rivers and a jungle, then Resort Taman Eko Rimba Komanwel checks all the right boxes.

Also known as Taman Eco Rimba Komanwel, this popular public camping spot in Selangor is by far one of the best-maintained parks in town.

The amenities are complete, and the area is spotless and packed with kids-friendly activities suitable for family outings.

Younger kids will revel in the thrills of riding the ATV (with an adult) or simply kayaking in the waist-deep lake. There are also electric scooters and bicycles for rental.

Comprising four designated camping zones and featuring up to 51 campsites, the sites are sprawled across two rivers along the main entrance.

Flaunting a well-landscaped jungle with garden pockets, camping grounds, fountains, and jogging tracks, this green lung is an idyllic haven away from the concrete jungle.

8.  GG Retreat, Bukit Tasek Serendah

GG Retreat comes with its own set of challenges. But the element of unpredictability is just the thrill experienced campers yearn for!

Situated on the east side of Kampung Orang Asli Serendah, the last 1km heading to the campsite is a rickety drive over bumpy terrain. Given the uneven landscape and heavier traffic over the weekends, progress can be slow along the narrow road.

The camping grounds of GG Retreat are clean and well-maintained. The campsite is situated quite far from the car park. So pack light and bring along a portable trolley where possible

They are not many trees around the campsite, so it can get pretty hot in the afternoon. Electricity is turned on from 6.30 pm to 10 pm. Thereafter, you’ll need a torch light to move around in pitch darkness.

With 4 toilets catering to up to 50 sites, this campsite in Selangor is notorious for its snaking queue leading to the bathrooms.

Overall, the place is harsher compared to the other sites. But the cool and not-too-deep river compensates for its shortfall.

9.  Kem Anugerah Alam Sg Batangsi

Located in Semenyih, Kem Anugerah Alam Sg Batangsi draws close comparison to kampong life next to the river.

During the rainy season, the unpaved road transforms into a muddy and uneven track, making the journey challenging for smaller cars and non-pickup trucks.

20 minutes down the road less traveled, you’ll reach this campsite bordered by wooden villages on high stilts.

It’s a precursor to what persistent rainfall can do to the nearby river, and campers adjacent to the river will have to evacuate when the water level rises. As such, opt for campsites on higher ground to save the hassle of moving.

The river water is murky like the color of "teh ais", and its waist-high depth means parental supervision is required at all times.

The facilities are basic and the toilets are far from the camping ground. Its hygiene level can be improved, so you’re better off setting up a mobile toilet for convenience too.

With no access to internet service providers, it’s the perfect place to detox digitally. Alternatively, download movies beforehand to watch them offline.

10.   Dusun Abu Campsite

Nestled amidst a matured durian and fruit farm, this 3.4-acre camping spot in Selangor comprises 28 same-sized “tapak” priced at RM70 per night.

The largest site close to the hill (Bukit) is a double-edged sword. While you rejoice in the privacy it entails, it's located a distance away from the toilet and sink. Thus, it can be energy zapping going up and down the hill to get chores done.

As a tip, bring your portable toilet to spare you the hassle when the call of nature beckons if you opt for the larger base.

On the plus side, apart from the thumping sounds of durian falling at midnight, the lazy, calm river with gentle bends makes it perfect for tubing and splashing water. Kids will love rafting in small boats too, and water guns will amp up the fun! The river is not shaded so the water is warm and soothing.

For optimum shade, pitch your tent under the luscious trees for all-day breeziness.

11.   Sojuk Riverside

Sojuk Riverside at Genting Highlands is a mixed bag of hits and misses.

Comprising 9 spanking new modular chalets and a camping ground next to the rivers, it is highly sought after by big families who enjoy outdoor activities. The shallow river adjacent to the campsites provides ample joy to the young ones to pitter patter all day.

Located at the base of the hill, the uphill construction marred the water quality which now looks murky and muddy. The water does not bode well with children and adults with sensitive skin, causing outbreaks and skin rashes due to pollution. The current at some parts of the river can be strong and warrants parental supervision.

Light sleepers complain of the sounds of a blower machine that occurs early morning around 6 am. In addition, with 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets per gender to cater to a huge crowd, having to queue to use these facilities can be dreadful.

Nevertheless, the silver lining at Soju Riverside is their helpful and courteous caretakers, plus the camaraderie of bonding with a large group of family and friends.

12. Damai Riverview Langat

Just like its name suggests, Damai Riverview Langat is a beautiful, private camping site with well-manicured lawns and functional landscaping. The camping grounds are located behind its entrance, flanked by a serendipitous river next to it.

The facilities are adequate with sufficient bathrooms and a clean kitchen. There are games and toys for the children to play with, and a large field to run around. Or play a game of frisbee or football too.

Apart from providing food and drinks, there’s an area to park your bicycle. Security is tight and it’s relatively safe to let your kids roam freely. Some parts of the camping site are not covered by trees. Hence, it can be hot during the day.

Recent development across the river has affected the water clarity, compounded by occasional floods that add to its murky disposition.

Helmed by friendly staff who willingly oblige with a tour of the hidden river, it’s hard to fault this camping site in Selangor for its minor flaws it has little control over.

13.  Hammocks By The River

On the way to Ajin Campsite in Hulu Langat, you’ll pass by Hammocks By The River on your right.

This privately owned camping site has zones catering to beginners where tents and gear are provided and an area designated for intermediate campers.

Newbies will be pampered with an exotic glamping experience, where aesthetic tents, inflatable beds, chairs, and coffee tables spoil guests from the word “go”. This pet-friendly campsite welcomes furkids of all kinds, and dog owners are strongly advised to leash their dogs in new territories.

If you’ve opted for the ultimate glamping experience via the premium package, the staff will help start the BBQ fire upon request. During durian season, campers enjoy unlimited access to pick and eat the thorny treats scattered on the ground,

Heeding to guests’ feedback, Hammocks By The River recently upgraded their toilets to include a rain shower feature, making it a pampering experience under clear blue skies.

As the river water is almost waist deep and currents can be strong at times, this campsite is exclusively for 17-year-olds and above. Don’t forget to bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper as the sounds of wild animals break the silence at night.

The water currents are strong at some points, sweeping you close to the river bank where you’ll have to dismount and reposition yourself.

Alternatively, rent an ATV and traverse the rugged terrain while exploring pockets of the secondary forest and fragrant fruit trees in full glory.

The toilets are clean and there are ample sinks. The parking space is spacious too. On the downside, the campsite does not have electricity. Nevertheless, solar-powered lights are turned on at night.
