About Blossom Deli Café
Blossom Deli Café is a family run business owned by Shirley who makes a delectable selection of handcrafted cakes. As a child, Shirley’s parents rented a stall at the corner shop (now known as Restaurant Hock Thye) where they sold their signature pan mee and fish paste egg noodles.
As she pursues her passion for baking cakes, she took the leap of faith by starting her business. This marked the birth of Blossom deli Café, located 4 lots away from their original stall.
Today, Shirley continues to helm the business and operational aspects of the café, while her mother helps out in the kitchen producing their signature dishes. As business has grown, they have roped in several foreign workers to help with waitressing and food preparation.
Ease of Parking
With only 2 rows of street parking along the block, parking space is limited and can be difficult finding a bay during lunch hour. Nevertheless, there is a playground behind the café where you can park along its perimeter.
Ambiance
Blossom Deli Cafe has an unpretentious setup with a simple seating arrangement. The cafe is clean, but void of all the fancy frills of upmarket eateries. There’s no air conditioning. But ample fans ensure that the ventilation is decent.
It’s a place where you can saunter in your most casual clothes or even in home clothes. And no one will bat an eye.
Such is its beauty for its real attraction lies in its food.
Service at Blossom Deli Café
Guests are required to write their orders on a sheet of paper and hand them to the counter.
The waiters will serve the food and drinks at the table. Waiting times are relatively short and you can expect to be served within 15 minutes, even during peak period.
To cope with the growing crowd, they’ve hired an additional staff to serve customers and take orders, while Shirley’s mother cooks the food. Food quality and taste remains consistent over the years. And it’s a good testament of a generational recipe well handed down.
Food
Their dry pan mee is the star attraction where the noodles are mildly springy and the sauce is first class.
Combining the essence from the chicken gravy and laced with umami undertones from mushrooms, the brown sauce complements the mince-meat to perfection. Topped with crunchy anchovies and sprinkles of spring onions, the explosion of flavors is hardly MSG-laden. But truly authentic and reminds you of mum’s cooking.
Each bowl of pan mee, be it hand torn or rolled noodles is served with a bowl of anchovy soup filled with cekur manis vegetable. This leaf-only vegetable is best savored with the dish.
The fried rice boasts robust wok hei and bits of pork alongside egg, prawns and mixed vegetables with a distinct charred flavor. If you love petai (stinky beans), their rendition of petai fried rice is a must-try.
Food servings are huge, but do keep some space for the carrot cheese cake that many herald as the best in town. Using the finest cheese and premium walnuts, the owner whips out the cakes right in front of diners throughout the day.
Showcasing her talent for making bespoke cakes of a wide spectrum of themes, do order the cakes for special occasions with a lead-time of three to four 4 days.
From floral bouquets to popular animations, each custom made cake boasts intricate attention to details. She even goes the extra mile to use print outs and fake flowers, when the occasion calls for it. Her unrelentless effort and perfection in cake designing makes Blossom Deli Café one of the best cake shops in Petaling Jaya.
Durian lovers can indulge in their durian cake that tastes almost like eating the real fruit with layers of spongy cake and cream. There is also burnt cheesecake, Biscoff cheesecake, muffins, and ice cream on the menu.
Even simple items like her butter cake and blueberry muffin don’t disspoint. And its exquisite taste screams high quality ingredients backed by exceptional baking techniques.
Pricing
As food portions are generous and the starting price for a meal is RM9, the pricing is reasonable. Furthermore, they use good quality ingredients and they are not stingy with them either.
