Boasting sweeping vistas of well-manicured terrains amidst an undulating backdrop of rolling hills, this park in KL has a petting zoo area where kids can interact with farm animals.

 

A sprawling lake takes centre stage with its vast area dotted with free roaming ducks, swans, and friendly goats lapping up treats like family pets.

Opened since February 2019, Bukit Jelutong Eco Community Park is a recreational space dedicated towards developing a community that is ecologically literate and kind to animals.

 

This spanking clean privately-owned community park comprise of several sections.  You’ll find the lake, hilly grounds to pet the goats, enclosures with the petting zoo, a café and lots of open spaces to frolic, play and exercise.

 

Be sure to come in comfy clothes and sports shoes, as the distance from where you alight from your car to the park is about 10-minutes walk.

 

To get to this petting zoo in KL, just key in “Bukit Jelutong Eco Community Park” in Waze for navigational assistance.

 

Where To Park

There is no designated parking area within the park. Visitors are required to park at the parking space at the hill top, but bays are limited.

 

Failing which, cars can be seen lined along the street heading towards the entrance.

 

What To Do At Bukit Jelutong Eco Community Park

 

1. Pet & Feed the Goats

The free roaming goats are a spectacle to observe and mingle with. Sporting polka dot prints of black, brown and white, or solid colors of those hues, the goats know that once they’re ushered to this designated area, prodding their noses will get them food!

 

You can buy carrots or vegetables (depending on what’s available) for RM5 at the counter before you enter.

 

Find yourself surrounded by a pack of hungry sheep, waiting to devour the carrots off your hands.

 

Some may come across as aggressive, but that’s just their overzealous nature scuffling for food.

 

The goat feeding area is open from 9am – 11.30am weekends and public holidays. After 11.30am, the keepers usher the goats back to their enclosures giving them a respite from the scorching afternoon sun.

 

2. Discover Exotic Animals At The Mini Zoo

Next to the goat feeding area is the mini zoo. You’ll find a host of exotic animals housed in concrete enclosures such as porcupines, mouse ostrich, bamboo rats, pentogonia mara, parrots, ostriches and more.

 

However, the landscaping of the enclosures seemed barren and can be improved to mimic their natural surroundings. But given that this is a free-to-enter petting zoo, the park may not generating sufficient income streams to improve the cages set up.

 

Nevertheless, the animals in this animal park in KL are well fed and generally look in good health.

 

3. Feed the Ducks, Swans & Geese At The Lake

As these feathered friends are acclimatized to humans, you can perch at the steps leading to the lake and hand feed them.

Watch out for the Pearl Grey Guinea turkeys that maintain their distance, yet will buzz around as long as there’s food.

 

4. Picnic At Shaded Gazebos or Roll Out Your Mat

Shaded gazebos dot this undulating land draped in greenery, making it the perfect place to seek refuge from the sun.

 

Alternatively, roll out your picnic mat and play board games with the young ones while enjoying the scenic view.

 

5. Play Badminton, Frisbee or Plan A Telematch

Take advantage of the flat pockets of land close to the hill and serve up your shuttle cock for a friendly game of badminton.

 

Alternatively, toss a frisbee or plan a telematch to keep the children engaged in some sweaty yet fun activities.

 

6. Go Fishing

The lake is not just for the swans and ducks to waddle and float. It’s teeming with fresh water fish, making it an angler’s paradise.

 

Cast your rod and who knows you may haul a tilapia!

 

7. Cycle or Jog

Jog along the concrete walkways that meander through the Bukit Jelutong Eco Community park, and chalk up a range while admiring its picturesque landscape.

 

Alternatively, cycle along the path to cover more ground within a shorter time.

 

8. Dine at the Café (8am – 7pm)

A cozy café perched above the lake greets guest with a homely menu that includes pasta and other local delicacies.

 

True to Malaysian hospitality, abide to the sign to remove your shoes before entering the restaurant.

 

Its modest and minimalist ambiance does no justice to the delicious food served within!

 

The cafe is the perfect pit stop to refuel with some tasty grub after exerting energy through sports or while mingling with the animals!

 

Do note that the café is open on weekends and public holiday only.

Make your way to the top of the hill and be rewarded with panoramic views of this breathtaking park. Get a birds eye glimpse of the city from the peak.

 

What To Wear & Bring at Bukit Jelutong Eco Community Park

With many open spaces and trees infringing the lake, the Bukit Jelutong Community Park can get quite hot after 10am onwards.

 

Be sure to slather your skin with sunblock to protect yourself from intense UV rays. Bring along an umbrella given the fairly unpredictable weather that transforms from sunny skies to pelting rain in minutes.

 

Come dressed in cotton garments or sweat-wicking clothes as the air is humid yet hot.

 

Wear comfortable jogging shoes as there will be lots of walking to do.

 

Do’s and Don’ts at the Bukit Jelutong Eco Community Park

·        Do not litter. Neatly tie up your rubbish and dispose it in a proper bin.

·        Do not feed the animals with outside food.

·        The ducks, geese and other feathered friends are not to be fed bread or any other

form of food not purchased from the park.

 

Entrance Fee to Bukit Jelutong Eco Community Park

Bukit Jelutong Eco Community Park does not charge any entrance fee or require payment of tickets to enter.

 

To contribute to the up keeping of this park, you can buy the animal pellets sold at RM5 per packet.

 

You can also buy carrots at RM5 per packet for the goats, tortoise and feed some to the rabbits. As a cautionary note, carrots are high in sugar and should  only be given as treats to the rabbits, and not as their main diet.

 

Conclusion

There’s something soothingly serene as you step into the grounds of Bukit Jelutong Eco Community Park. The tranquil scenery, vibrantly green landscape and close interaction with animals make the experience immersive and educational.

 

Unlike Kebun Kebun Bangsar, this park in KL showcases a wider variety of animals and has more caretakers to look after the welfare of the animals and park.


It offers a nice respite away from the concrete jungle, and a wholesome way to teach our children the beauty in simplicity.

 

Hands down, the Bukit Jelutong Eco Community Park is by far one of the best parks in Kuala Lumpur!
