On our quest for the best pasta in Petaling Jaya, I believe I found it here!
Butter and Spice’s pastas are authentically good, with ingredients and cooking techniques home cooks like me can’t unravel. From its silky, impeccable texture to its bursting flavors that’s MSG free, Butter and Spice is no longer a well-kept secret.
In fact, this lovely neighborhood café in PJ hits the jackpot when it comes to good food, great service and a relaxing ambiance! Read on and discover Butter and Spice’s pleasing menu that caters to all age groups and eaters!
About Butter and Spice

Opening its doors in February 2024, Butter & Spice is a seasoned and highly frequently neighborhood Italian fusion diner in the culinary hub of SS2. Situated round the bent of Bentong Yong Tau Foo, this café is one of the reasons why parking is elusive here.
Peddling their culinary expertise in the Japanese-Italian scene, Butter and Spice’s tantalizing menu includes bespoke cakes, pizzas, and dainty pastries with buttery, crispy layers.
Located a stone’s throw away from Kona Bakehouse – its sibling, the shared mastery of pastry and dessert crafting is evident in their exhaustive display of baked goods at the entrance.
Their flan tarts are sinfully decadent, with a thin crust held by layers of pastry and wiggly caramel in the center. The textures are delightful and impossible to match, gently peeling off with each bite.
Ease of Parking
Given its location within a housing estate, street parking is limited and diners tend to jostle for parking bays. Should you fail to secure a parking bay, drive further down the houses and park by the roadside.
Be considerate and be sure not to block entrances to the houses.
Ambiance
Flaunting contemporary vibes with earthen flooring and greyish nuances, their choice of Japanese cutleries and plates reinforces its chic appeal.
Potted plants decorate strategic corners to lend a relaxing atmosphere, while the ventilation in this air conditioned café is airy without being too cold.
Outside, a cozy seating area awaits queuing diners waiting for their turn.
Service at Butter and Spice
Service at this café in Petaling Jaya is courteous and prompt, with waiters greeting guest upon entering. Diners place orders by scanning the QR code menu while the waiters are always on hand to take queries.
We decided to cancel our pizza order a few minutes after completing the order. The waiter that attended to us was kind enough to cancel it at the kitchen, as we did not want to waste food.
We also learned that the kitchen staff did not pick up the cancelation and proceeded to make the pizza. But he was quick to shrug it off as an internal miscommunication, making him the perfect ambassador for this industry.
Be forewarned portions may not look big. But because the ingredients used are of good quality, you will satiated in no time.
Food at Butter & Spice
While they are revered for their flan tarts, Butter and Spice’s pasta is no pushover and instead, a clear delight.

The Truffles Carbonara is a heavenly amalgamation featuring earthy connotations from the truffles, while the duck slices exude smoky nuances that makes this dish multi-dimensional in taste.
The carbonara’s texture is creamy with the right consistency, while the handmade pasta is cooked to al dente perfection, served with optimum chewiness without being soggy.
Divine to the last slurp, this pasta dish sets the bar of expectation high for what’s served next.

Butter and Spice’s rendition of Aglia Olio is a master class of heavenly flavors. Silky angel hair pasta and full-bodied flavors infused with garlic oil wraps the Aglia Olio, making it satisfying and delicious.

For dessert lovers, their Charcoal Matcha Flan is highly recommended. With a harmonious blend of subtle hints complemented by charcoal undertones, the brulee relents with the slightest bite.

Their tiramisu is ideal for the waist and calorie-conscious. Lightweight on sugar and heavy weight on textures and flavors, hints of Kahlua liquor comingles with rich cocoa powder and creamy mascarpone cheese, whipping up a pleasurable fluff with each scoop.

The chocolate mousse cake is another decadent dessert that’s not overly sweet. Featuring light mousse interspersed with chocolate ganache and airy sponge slices, tuck in to a sensorial bite.

Remember to try their Truffle Pizza, which boasts a handmade, thin-crust pizza with smoky truffle toppings and mozzarella cheese that lends a stretchy, fulfilling texture.
Pricing
The price tag for lunch for 5 came up to RM140, which is reasonable considering the variety of food, top notch quality and service rendered. Butter and Spice is one of my go-to cafes for celebrations, as a pampering gesture of gratitude towards your loved ones, or a nice reward to myself after a long day at work.
Conclusion
Butter and Spice’s varied menu is pleasing enough for foodies on the hunt for good Italian and Japanese fusion food.
From delicious pasta to top-notch pastries and decadent desserts, our review on Butter and Spice is far from biased. But an honest confession on what this neighborhood restaurant has to offer. It amplifies the essence of enjoying simple pleasures in life, where good food is the spice for creating special moments.
