Food
As purveyors of healthy food, every dish at Purple Canes Tea House is infused with tea leaves. Besides, its salt, oil, and sugar content is reduced to create a cleaner taste profile. In addition, their dishes are not artificially flavored with MSG.
For starters, their Oolong Tea-infused Chicken Bak Kut Teh noodle is comforting and well-infused with hints of aromatic oolong. Packed with fresh ingredients of varied colors, this is one dish that requires no condiments as the broth is flavorful by itself.
(Set lunches from left to right: Sweet & Sour Chicken with Tea Rice; Eight Treasure Vegetables with Tea Rice; Homemade Braised Beancurd Pumpkin Tea Sauce with Tea Rice)
The Set Lunches give diners a good bang for their buck. Apart from its generous portions, the Set Lunches comes with a complimentary cold or hot tea.
Served on a tear-dropped shape plate, the crimson pumpkin sauce lends a sweet and wholesome taste to the homemade tofu bursting with fragrant soya bean nuances.
If you’re craving something sweet and sour, the Sweet and Sour Chicken with Tea Rice is a foolproof delight. Its clean taste profile served with fresh capsicums and carrots on a bed of oyster sauce-infused gravy is not overbearing, nor too salty.
As for their tea, sipping the Long Jing Green Tea is a noteworthy and sensorial experience. Infused with a smooth taste and delicate tea undertones, the Long Jing Tea is harvested only during early spring.
Considering its limited quantities and stark availability, each cup of this yellow-green emulsion is a pleasant experience not to be missed.
On the other hand, the Steamed Long Jing Lei Cha Bun with Peanut Filling is a bit of a miss. The peanut granules were too lumpy for my liking. The long jing tea somehow did no bode well with the sticky peanut bites, though the pao though was airy.
There’s also a medley of 5 tasty tea puddings and jelly desserts infused with roast tea, green tea, oolong tea, and jasmine available to savor.
