The narrow strip of shop lots along Jalan 20/7 on Taman Paramount is anything but quiet at lunchtime and in the evening. And Spring Spring Café is one of the culprits.
This newest cat cafe in Petaling Jaya is super esthetically pleasing, pristine clean and most importantly, the food is delicious. Ditch the thought pet cafe foods is blah – because the presentation is impressive and so is the taste.
Read on to find out what’s in store, apart from prancing felines, Instagrammable corners and some of the best brews in town!
About Spring Spring Café
Spring Spring Café opened in January 2023. Considering that Petaling Jaya is not yet saturated with pet cafes, the owners are opportunists with a keen eye for detail. What’s special about this new cat cafe in Selangor is that the food is delicious and the aroma of freshly ground coffee permeates the crisp air of the cafe. The place is spotlessly clean without floating fur in sight. There are strategically placed HEPA filters to remove any foul odors that traditional cat cafes are associated with.
Just like their mantra, every purchase here comes with 8 sleepy resident cats as company. As much as I love kucing kampungs (local cats) for their short fur and lower likelihood of developing nasal sensitivity, these long-haired Maine Coon cats strut with a regal presence! They are pampered to the tips of their tails and enjoy the best days of their lives. Groomed to perfection and well taken care off with a large space to roam, Spring Spring Café doubles as their forever home.
So if you’re a cat lover or a cat owner looking to socialize your cats, this place is your furry paradise!
Parking
Since this cat cafe in Petaling Jaya occupies a narrow strip along a one-way street, parking spaces are scarce and hard to find during lunch and dinner hours. If you can’t find street parking, drive to the back and find a bay among the houses.
Ambiance
Spring Spring Café is located on the first floor, and this prevents furry friends from straying out. In fact, Spring Spring Café pulls all the stops with its impressive ambience. As you walk up the stairs, the names of the 8 resident cats adorn the walls with cute caricatures. Inside, the bar and cashier counter steals the limelight as the center piece, while the left side of the café is divided into two seating areas.
Cat towers and portable book shelves are strategically placed for the cats to lounge and laze. On the right side, there’s a collection of indoor potted plants and vintage knick-knacks to admire.
The café is free of feline odor, dust and fur and smells of delicious food and coffee.
The cat café in Selangor offers free Wi-Fi, making it an ideal place to work or study during the week, as there are plenty of power sockets. The horizontal mirror that spans the entire width of the café is not just for the cats to ogle at birds. Guests can look out over the busy street and the changing weather cocooned in this cozy environment, which is well ventilated and cool.
Food
As for the food, Spring Spring Café’s meat bowls exceed the standards of other pet cafes. Their crispy chicken and egg bowl isn't just a pretty platter with cucumber and tomatoes on the sides. But the crunchy chicken has just the right bite to rival its other famous counterparts!
The spicy kimchi beef don and the avocado don are heartier options with fresh and tasty ingredients.
The coffee puts the artisanal coffee shops to shame. Their acid-free coffee with potent flat whites is served in proper cups and with saucer plates. No shortcuts are taken and thankfully the coffee is not served in paper cups.
Pricing
Pet cafés have higher operating costs because they have additional cost to maintain the cats and the cleanliness of the premises. So its natural for prices of the food to be slightly higher than average.
The average price per meal is RM25 and is not overwhelming considering the quality of the food.
Verdict
Spring Spring Cafe’s Instagrammable interior puts a spring to anyone who steps into their space. The minimalist decor, soothing lighting, cool atmosphere and odor-free air makes it one of the best cat cafes in Petaling Jaya.
We wished that their luscious cats were a little more cuddly or were more accommodating towards humans who yearn petting them. They must be exposed to overzealous visitors all day long and can sometimes seem a little aloof.
Despite this, the cats are well behaved and my children left the place unscathed without being clawed. Instead, they left Spring Spring Café with a satiated tummy and a big smile, because the cat encounters were unforgettable!
