Decked with cuddly teddy plushies in various sizes at every nook and cranny, Teddy Café is any teddy bear enthusiast's dream café.
Its teddy theme menu features cutesy teddies peeking out from drinks, 3D latte art, and stacked teddies on waffles, making it a stand-out café in Kelana Jaya.
While it seems highly popular among families with children or ladies with a fetish for comforting teddies, does the Teddy Café live up to the hype as one of the best cafes in Petaling Jaya?
Read on as we review and shed light on everything adorable in this café.
About The Teddy Café
Launched in 2015, Teddy Café was founded by Ryan Low and his wife Emma Soo. Inspired by Emma’s adoration for teddy bears as their house filled with soft toys, the couple took the leap of faith and opened the teddy café, making it the first of its kind in Malaysia.
Perched close to the entrance of Zenith Corporate Park, the Teddy Café is an attraction on its own. The café is almost always packed during lunch and dinner time. Thankfully service is prompt and food Is served within 15 minutes.
Ease of Parking
Street parking is limited around this café in Petaling Jaya and is especially challenging during weekdays.
If you can’t park by the curb, head over to the underground parking where there is ample parking space.
Ambiance
With pastel cream fittings juxtaposed against grey walls, The Teddy Café exudes whimsical yet inviting vibes.
Cuddly bears greet guests as they lounge on high chairs, sofas, and even on a dedicated stage lined with bears, making it the perfect platform to hug and take selfies!
Its walls are adorned with 3D bears popping out of portraits, teddy bear pictures, and teddy bear murals, while bursts of greenery add color to this unbelievably cute scene.
Home to more than 200 teddy bears of various colors and expressions, The Teddy Cafe brings out the inner child in adults and it’s a popular party place for full moons and children’s birthdays.
The tables just behind the entrance are reserved for parties and huge gatherings and they go the extra mile to ramp up the decoration in this area based on the festivity.
Service at the Teddy Café
Service is prompt and the waiter hands you their printed menu. Guests are encouraged to place their orders by scanning the QR code on the table. The service is somewhat functional and can improve on hospitality.
Food
Portions are huge and should be shared among 2 pax to avoid wastage.
We tried the Curry Spaghetti with Smoke Duck - a fusion dish that closely resembled the Malaysian curry Laksa. The spaghetti wasn’t very outstanding, but the smoked duck was first-class. The aromatic undertones enhanced by the smoking process interspersed with thin layers of fat make the slices heavenly to the last bite.
The classic chicken burger is an eye-catching platter made out of a homemade chicken patty, straight-cut French fries, and a bed of salad. The unique hollandaise sauce complements the chicken patty to perfection. And its meaty content also means it’s not a serving that a child can finish.
As for their cheesy nachos, their freshness was outstanding and the refreshing dip was the icing on the cake. Apart from the crispiness of the nachos, we’ve tasted more memorable ones at Undisclosed Location, which by far still ranks first on our lists.
The Chicken Chop with Rice is another crowd favorite. Served in teddy bear-shaped rice and toasted bread cut to the shape of a teddy bear’s head, it's one of those dishes that’s too cute to be eaten.
For desserts, your phone will happily devour their waffles with marshmallow bears first, thanks to its pretty plating. Powdered with plenty of icing sugar and drenched in chocolate syrup, their signature waffles deserve a thumbs-up for taste and presentation.
For more cutesy overload, don’t forget to indulge in their Strawberry Coffee. This dainty cup of latte art showcases pretty hints of pink with a beary cute face to boot over aromatic coffee.
As for vegetarian options, you’ll find 6 types of vegetarian pasta based on the different sauces such as carbonara, dry tom yam, marinara, butter sauce, bolognaise, and aglia olio.
Overall, we have to say that the food is decent but it’s not something you will rave and crave over time.
Pricing
Considering its huge serving sizes fit two, the starting price of RM20 per meal and RM11 for snacks and side dishes is reasonable.
Conclusion
The Teddy Café is extremely popular among teddy bear connoisseurs and families with young children. While most adults would have ditched their old teddies while spring cleaning, this café allows you to relive your childhood memories growing up with cuddly plushies.
The ambiance is warm but service can be improved. The waiters should take cues from the teddies and adopt their smiley expressions.
As for the food, it doesn’t have enough depth or identity to draw in real foodies on the hunt for good food.
