Vegetarian food need not be boring. And Voila proves this point!
Nestled in the middle of the shop lots along Jalan Panggong, Voila is a vegetarian restaurant that serves delicious yet clean vegan Chinese food.
The herbal teas are pretty and have cleansing properties. And the food reminds us of Chinese fine dining cuisine.
We were duped by their authentic look and taste, making this KL vegetarian cafe the perfect place for nutritious food that your tummy will thank you!
About Voila Restaurant
Voila is a vegetarian and vegan Chinese restaurant serving soy-based, meat-free dishes.
Drawing inspiration from Chinese and fusion recipes, you’ll find a diverse menu serving traditional Chinese restaurant dishes that include fish, tofu, duck, prawns, egg dishes, and vegetables.
Established in August 2022, the open kitchen allows customers to watch the experienced chef in action, as he stirs up a storm and manages all the cooking.
Ambiance
The yellow lighting at this KL vegetarian restaurant is soothing yet bright enough, setting the stage for a tranquil dining experience despite the lunchtime crowd.
On the 15th lunar day of the month when Buddhists embrace a meat-free fast, expect Voila to be full to the brim. And don’t bother walking in without a reservation.
Its décor is chic and contemporary, with two round tables lined up on the left as you enter.
Apart from its pristine cleanliness, Voila Cafe boasts an orderly sight of confidence that they are well organized and managed with the best kitchen practices.
There’s no luxury of space that separates one table from the other. So the atmosphere can be noisy filled with chatter and movement from the waiters.
Accessibility
Voila is accessible via the MRT or LRT train where you can alight at the Pasar Seni station. A short 3 minutes’ walk will get you to your destination. If you’re driving, park a the open-air car park opposite Jalan Balai Polis and adjacent to Ho Kou Hainan restaurant. As the parking space in front of Voila is currently closed for upgrades and renovation.
Service at Voila
Service at this Kuala Lumpur vegetarian restaurant is courteous and acceptable during peak periods, despite the burgeoning crowd. Expect to wait approximately 30 minutes for the first dish to be served when the restaurant is full-house.
Food at Voila
For starters, we were served free soup of the day - a fantastic start comprising a bowl of ABC soup enriched with tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, and mock meat. The soup was robustly flavored despite not having any meat essence, neither was it overly salty.
The Lisboa-style fried vege cod fish served in sweet and sour sauce was the highlight. The crispy edges of the cod fish and the perfect texture make me forget that bean curd blocks can taste this good!
Garnished with capsicum, tomatoes and served on a bed of lettuce, the pretty plating with an orchid on the side elevated its presentation.
The Golden Yam Ring was done to perfection as each bite unveils the natural fragrance of fresh yam. Topped with diced meat, black fungus, and roasted cashew nuts, the yam basket’s garnishing of fried crisp was not spared by our savagely hungry bunch!
The Braised Mushrooms with Steamed Broccoli were decadent, featuring juicy big mushrooms, fish maw fashioned out of king oyster mushrooms, and broccoli served in a thick gravy. The gravy, however, lacked taste and could do with slightly more salt.
The Vege Mutton Curry with Fried Mantou was the show-stopper. The mutton retained its pseudo-gamey waft akin to the real meat, while the curry was thick, mildly spicy, and infused with intricate layers of spices. The crispy mini buns were served warm without being heavily laden in oil and tasted heavenly dipped in curry.
The Imperial Concubine Tofu made from scratch exuded homely aromas of fresh soya beans. Its soft yet jiggly texture relented to the slightest pressure and tasted divine paired with the savory brown sauce.
Given the good food, even self-confessed meatarians will find it hard to resist Voila’s impeccably flavored food with classy plating!
Prices
We ordered 8 dishes in total and a pot of Chinese chrysanthemum tea, and the total cost was decent at RM30++ per pax. Considering the quality of the ingredients used and high culinary standards, the pricing at Voila is decent and worth it.
Verdict
Voila is a famous vegan restaurant in KL that serves Michelin-standard food at affordable prices.
While its small space results in a noisier dining experience during peak periods, its barely empty interiors and good food make it one of the best Chinese vegetarian restaurants at Pasar Seni, KL.
Voila provides an awesome vegetarian dining option in the heart of this tourist hub. Alternatively, you can cross the road to Ka Fei Dian to savor authentic Chinese traditional food!
